About
TC is an attorney (and former public-school teacher) who has been writing songs on and off for 25+ years. His decision to finally pursue his music after all these years is likely the result of a mid-life crisis.
TC started writing songs soon after he got his first guitar (a Fender Stratocaster) for Christmas 1998. TC had been playing drums for two years at that point. Two years later, at 16, he got his current acoustic guitar (a Seagull S6 he affectionately calls “Jane”) that has served as his only guitar for the last 25 years.
TC’s songwriting has ebbed and flowed during various eras:
High School Era (1999-2003) - This was a prolific period for TC. He wrote some of his best songs, though they also had lyrics and therefore sounded different from the instrumentals those songs later evolved into. TC recorded albums in 2002 and 2003 that still survive.
College Era (2003-2007) - TC wrote a few good tunes during this time, though not as much as during his High School Era. This is likely because TC spent more time learning cover songs, including praise and worship songs. TC recorded an album in 2006 that still survives.
Dark Ages (2008-2016) - TC did not do much writing during this time. This is understandable, as TC got married, became a public-school teacher, started a family (his daughters were born in 2009 and 2011), and then went to law school. However, TC still worked on music during this time and based on a conversation with a Nashville songwriting coach—who told TC that his songs were too bouncy for country music and that TC should consider writing for children’s tv shows—TC decided to convert all his songs into instrumentals.
Clerkship Era (2017-2018) - This was a renaissance of sorts for TC’s songwriting after almost 10 years. TC wrote five new instrumentals and bridges to many existing instrumentals to “complete” them. While this was an exciting time for TC, it also caused apprehension because TC realized that despite multiple years of dedicating himself to becoming a lawyer, his creative bug hadn’t been squished, and he’d need to find a way to satisfy that side of him. A 2018 recording still survives.
Fantasy Era (2019-2023) - TC’s attention switched from writing songs to reading and writing fantasy stories. TC had always loved creative writing but was surprised at how much this new hobby consumed him. TC begrudgingly realized that his desire to create (in whatever form) was a curse that wasn’t going away and he should embrace it.
Senior Associate Era (2023-Present) - A trip to Capricorn Studios in Macon, Georgia for work reignited TC’s desire to write and play music. TC also contacted the Copyright Office and was able to listen to his old albums (from the early 2000s) for the first time in decades, which further inspired him. Within a few years, TC had written more new songs than even during his productive High School Era. After amassing 35 or so songs (many of them brand new), TC decided to finally pursue music.
